Senator Tina Smith (D-Minnesota) has clarified that the abortion ban enacted in the Red State was not an individual decision, but part of a coordinated Republican plan to curtail medical freedom.

When asked by CNN’s Jim Acosta about the Supreme Court’s suspension of rulings banning abortion drugs, Smith said:
I worked at Planned Parenthood and have seen everyday women making good decisions about their health care. There is no need to dictate to politicians what to do for people who live in states where abortions are still practiced and liberties are still protected. They can now know that abortion pills are available.
But as your article before I came out showed, women in states across the country are losing that access. This was part of a joint campaign by the Republican Party to strip that liberty, and I was working at Planned Parenthood when I saw this long-standing effort to ban abortion. If they vote, we’ll check at the federal level.
The abortion issue is a freedom issue. Republicans want to take away the freedom to control their bodies and make their own medical decisions from the majority of the US population. All Americans who respect individual liberty should be outraged by the actions of Republicans.
These bans are not individual decisions being made by state governments. This ban is a concerted campaign to effectively ban abortion in the United States. Senator Smith was right. If Republicans controlled the government, they would ban abortion.
The media tends to treat rights violations as individual acts, but we need to see the big picture. If Americans want to preserve their freedom, they must stop those who are determined to destroy their most personal freedoms.
