Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has accused Kevin McCarthy and Tucker Carlson and called on Fox News to stop Carlson’s 1/6 disinformation campaign.
Schumer’s video:
Transcript of Schumer’s remarks:
Last night, millions of Americans tuned in to one of the most embarrassing hours ever seen on cable television.
Tucker Carlson, a Fox News host who downplayed facts, ignored risks, and knew full well that he was lying to his audience, said last night that the January 6th Capitol attack was a violent riot. I ran a long segment claiming it wasn’t.
Dive deep into a sea of conspiracies and culled from thousands of hours of surveillance footage, Mr. Carlson lied audaciously that the attack on the Capitol we all saw with our own eyes was somehow Or it wasn’t an attack… at all.
He tried to claim it was nothing more than a peaceful sightseeing tour. Can you imagine? A non-violent demonstration and a perfectly appropriate and proper example of people expressing their opinions.
I, and many others who were here in the Capitol, and millions of Americans, are outraged today by Tucker Carlson and Kevin McCarthy.
A member of my staff came to the Capitol on January 6th. Their lives were at stake, and the lives of many of my colleagues, police, maintenance staff, reporters, and countless others.
At one point I was within 30 feet of a mob. One of them yelled “Let’s get him” but my detail pulled me away and we ran in opposite directions. To say that January 6th wasn’t violent is a lie. Pure and simple lie.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a primetime cable newscaster manipulate an audience like Mr. Carlson did last night.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Anchor treat the American people and American democracy with such contempt. And he’s slated to return tonight for another segment. Fox News should tell him not to. Rupert Murdoch, Fox News — Tell Mr. Carlson not to give the second part of the lie. you know it’s a lie You admitted it was a lie.
And Speaker of the House McCarthy is just as responsible in every respect as Mr. Carlson. House Speaker McCarthy’s decision to share security footage with Fox seemed like a mistake from the start, but after last night, it looks like a disaster.
Speaker McCarthy has played a dangerous, dangerous game by serving on the far right. He enabled big lies and further eroded our precious democracy. When people don’t believe elections are fair, it is the beginning of the end of this bold experiment in democracy that has been going on for over 200 years.
Rep. McCarthy is all the more shameful because he knows exactly what kind of customer Mr. Carlson is. He is not surprised by this result.
What a shame for Congressman McCarthy. What a low point for Fox News.
As the coverage of the Dominion lawsuit shows, Mr. Carlson has no trouble admitting behind the scenes that the big lie is utter garbage. When Sidney Powell was televised to spread the stolen election story, Mr. Carlson told his fellow anchor Laura Ingraham, “Sidney Powell is lying.” Carlson’s own producer texted him, “I don’t think there is evidence of voter fraud that swayed the election.”
they know They know full well that they are lying. And they’re doing it anyway.
All Americans of all types in this country – Democrats, Republicans, independents – need to stand up and condemn Mr. Carlson’s actions. It is a dangerous and unforgivable attempt to destabilize democracy and rewrite history. The worst attack on our Constitution since the Civil War.
An insult to all the police officers who were on the scene on that horrible, horrible day.
It is an affront to the memory of all those who died in connection with the attack, especially Brian Schicknick. Nonviolence? Just ask the Schicknick family. Just thinking about what his family must be going through this morning makes me sick.
And it is an insult to all who care about our democracy and wish to preserve the dreams of our founders in our time.
I hope all members of this Chamber of Commerce will call on Fox and Mr. Carlson to defend the rebels.
Again, I am disappointed and outraged by House Speaker McCarthy’s decision to share classified security footage with Mr. Carlson.
Chairman McCarthy was here that day. he really knows what happened. His staff and members suffered like everyone else. But he chose cheap political benefits over the preservation of truth and democracy.
I condemn Mr. Carlson for taking the side of the enemy of democracy. I strongly condemn the actions of Speaker of the House McCarthy and strongly oppose his decision to share this footage with Carlson. We order them to stop and urge them to stand on the same level as their viewers about the truth behind their efforts to mislead the public. is.

Fox News needs to unplug Tucker Carlson’s 1/6 propaganda
Majority Leader Schumer was right. The American people should be outraged at Kevin McCarthy for providing Tucker Carlson with Capitol security footage. The American people should be outraged at Carlson for attacking democracy using the airwaves owned by the American people.
It’s important to remember that Rupert Murdoch was able to end Carlson’s riotist idiocy with one phone call. Murdoch does not call. This suggests there’s nothing wrong with preparing America for another of his 1/6 attacks as long as it prevents the viewer from escaping.
Fox News needs to unplug McCarthy and Carlson’s disinformation campaign. Otherwise, America may have to turn off the lights on Fox News.
